What is PC Performance Calculator?
PC Performance Calculator is a free tool that estimates gaming performance — FPS, CPU/GPU balance, VRAM and RAM usage, and power draw — for a given combination of CPU, GPU, RAM and game. Instead of measuring your exact machine, it compares the relative performance profile of your components against the game's demand profile and scales a set of reference figures accordingly. Every number the calculator shows is labeled as an estimate, never as a real, measured benchmark.
The goal is to help you answer practical questions before you buy or upgrade anything: will this GPU bottleneck my CPU? What frame rate should I expect at 1440p? Is 16GB of RAM actually enough? Which upgrade gives me the best return?
How FPS estimates work
Each CPU and GPU in our catalog carries a synthetic 0–100 estimated relative performance index, built from verified public specifications (cores, clocks, architecture, memory bandwidth) and typical gaming performance patterns for that hardware class. Each game carries editorial reference points for how GPU- and CPU-bound it tends to be.
When you calculate, the tool scales those reference points by your exact resolution, graphics preset, ray tracing and upscaling choices, then takes the lower of the resulting "GPU-bound" and "CPU-bound" figures as your estimated frame rate — the same logic real bottlenecks follow. How to identify a bottleneck
A bottleneck simply means one component is holding back the other. Our calculator never reduces this to a single vague percentage — instead it reports CPU limitation, GPU limitation, or Balanced, alongside estimated utilization for each part, so you can see which one has headroom left.
In general: low resolutions and light, competitive games tend to be more CPU-sensitive, while high resolutions, Ultra settings and ray tracing push the load onto the GPU. The same CPU+GPU pair can be CPU-limited in one game and GPU-limited in another.
How much RAM do you need for gaming?
For most current games, 16GB in dual-channel is the sweet spot — enough headroom for the game plus background apps without constraining performance. 8GB is workable for older or lighter titles but is increasingly a limiting factor in modern AAA games. 32GB+ rarely improves gaming performance on its own; it mainly helps multitasking, streaming or content creation running alongside the game.
